Announcements and General Information
(This web page is a work in progress. If a link doesn't work, check back later.)

Welcome incoming 5th graders! We loved playing for you when you visited our campus. Here is a link to the general information about fine arts at Collins. Look in the sidebar down and on the left for more about the instruments offered in orchestra. It's not too late to sign up for orchestra. If you missed the instrument selection nights just email Mrs. Ellis for more information.

Important Dates

May 24, String Fling at CPHS Gym

Students arrive between 5:00 and 5:20.
6:00 Collins, Knox, and College Park perform.

May 26, Last day to have instruments at school. School instruments need to be returned to the school by this date. Rental instruments need to be taken home or arrangements made with the dealer for pick up.

Uniform Donation Welcome: If your student is leaving Collins and no longer needs or has outgrown white shirts and black pants or skirts we could use these donations. Orchestra books and accessories that are no longer wanted will also be accepted.

Summer Info: Students are encouraged to keep their instruments over the summer so that they can practice. Summer is a great time to take private lessons or participate in orchestra camps, too. If you are renting your instrument you may lose any money built up towards eventual purchase of an instrument if you return the instrument over the summer. When rental begins again in the fall your purchase money would start over from zero. For that reason it also can make financial sense to keep the instrument over the summer.

Welcome orchestra students!

There are links in the left column for each orchestra instrument. Feel free to explore.

Joining the orchestra? Please arrange for a rental instrument after being measured by Mrs. Ellis.  Ask your vendor to deliver the instrument to Collins as soon as possible. Mrs. Ellis will get it set up and ready for you to play. Please do not purchase an instrument without consulting Mrs. Ellis.

Honor Orchestra meets on Tuesday and Friday mornings.  Honor Orchestra meets Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:40-8:30 a.m.  Rehearsals start promptly at 7:40 a.m.  Any student with a year or more of playing experience is eligible to be in Honor Orchestra. Students are required to commit to attending all rehearsals and performance, and to practicing the extra music involved.

Here is a link to the Ode to Joy video we watched in 5th grade orchestra class. You can also click here, or on the link on the left for information and assigments for 5th graders.

We welcome donations of orchestra uniforms and equipment. If you will no longer need your orchestra shirt please consider donating it to Collins. We can also use outgrown white shirts, black pants, and sometimes even dress shoes. Music books, shoulder rests, rock stops, and stands can also be donated if they will no longer be used. Thank you for considering us.
